Have you ever been on a trip to Mexico? Ever been on public transportation there? Carlos is usually sitting in the front with four chickens on his lap, Gabriela is typically in the middle of the aisle with her goat an 14 children. In general I’d say OC Transpo is a cut above.. Except for this time.
I was one of three people on a downtown bus, it was mid day. We rolled up to a stop and I saw it; ~50 Mexican children, two guardians. The youngest would have been around 8, oldest maybe 14. Here’s the best part, most of the rug rats were downing cans of Red Bull.. 50, 8-14 year olds hanging off the bars, sitting three high in each others lap, chattering away in their native tongues and singing something you hear on CHIN radio… All doped up on sugar, caffeine and guanarannnana (isn’t that bat shit?).
All I was missing for the real Mexican experience was for them to try and sell me hand weaved bracelets and carved souvenirs.
